Enter the Dame (from 4.20…)

Posted by 302 on Aug 27, 2009 in martini martini

Enter the Dame…Enter the light lunch…Enter the Bromo? From The Hudsucker Proxy written by JOEL and ETHAN COEN, and SAM RAIMI (September, 1992).

Enter the dame.
There’s one in every story.
Ten bucks says she’s looking for a handout.
Twenty bucks says not here, she don’t find one.
She’s looking for her mark.
She finds him.
She sits down and orders… …a light lunch.
How will she pay for this lunch?
She looks through her purse.
No money. The mark notices.
He’s not noticing, Benny.
Maybe he’s wise.
He don’t look wise.
Plan two. Here come the waterworks. -Yellowstone. -Old Faithful. Hello, Niagara.
He notices.
She’s distressed.
He’s concerned.
She explains her predicament.
And…. Enter the light lunch.
She’s got other problems, of course.
There’s illness in the family. -Her mother needs an operation. -Urgently. -Adenoids. -No, Benny. Lumbago.
That gag’s got whiskers on it.
He ain’t biting, Benny.
She’s losing him, Lou.
Maybe he’s wise.
He don’t look wise.
How does she pull this out?
He’s getting away.
She better think fast.
She isn’t. She is!
She’s good, Benny.
She’s damn good, Lou.
Can I get you boys anything else?
Bromo.

the short week that was

Posted by robingol on Aug 14, 2009 in blame it on the bossa nova, martini martini

Short weeks are the longest weeks, they just inexplicably are even if you are not trying to squish five days work into four there are enough others who frantically are and they are the ones who bring the system down.

Outside of work my life feels like a slow, black and white movie with artistic spots of colour scattered over sparse scenes and it is that little bit of colour that keeps everything bright, it’s the little renewal happening in the background and for which I am the most thankful.

In the next few weeks though things will speed up a little bit, the Winter looks like it is quickly giving way to the cherry blossoms of Spring, and the light is becoming far richer and more pronounced with every passing day. This change will rub off on the people who will go with that positive flow, and a new football season begins (tomorrow) sparking more pleasant distraction.

Football brings out the beer drinking barbarian in me, I sloth around the lounge, feast off stale pizza and the barley and malt of beer, it’s great at the beginning you don’t do much just watch football and expand your girth (or substance) but you do get to diminishing returns fairly soon although it’s magically good while it lasts.

Over the last week or so I been watching, the BBC Documentary, Planet Earth which it is spectacular, David Attenborough is his hypnotic self and the visuals are without comparison, the extent of the footage is mind boggling.

How does one view such an array of beautiful, interlacing, systems of life without personal reflection? It got me thinking about my little circle almost instantaneously and my appreciation just swelled at the thought of all of those people and things (yes things) that make it some kind of wonderful.

And my life always has a soundtrack this week musically, I’ve been stuck in a bit of a ‘jazz trance,’ and it’s all Cal Tjader’s fault, he of so many great vibes has put me into the state that I am in.

taking off the back in 5 minutes sign

Posted by 302 on Aug 4, 2009 in blame it on the bossa nova

It does feel like the back in five minutes sign which has been on stuck on this blog has long expired but that’s because a small side project has been taking up all the residual creative intent.

It’s something that we had planned, had penned, had even established a site and then nothing happened as it so frequently does when I’m involved but then suddenly we got our act together over a beer and launched the Black South Eater.

This person does love food and drink and visibly it tends to love him back, but that’s another story, I don’t think the BSE has a slimming diet yet simply because it’s still in that indulgent stage of gluttony but the wheel does turn.

Other than the BSE there has been lots of quiet things going on the most noteworthy:

 - I bought a the Liverpool football shirt as I intended.

 - I’m watching Breaking Bad I have both seasons and it is really excellent.

 - I haven’t picked up a book all week.

 - I have been told no new whisky purchases until I finish an existing bottle, how foolish to have agreed.

 - Musically? I’ll have to make you another list on Friday but it’s all over the show one moment it’s Underworld’s Born Slippy and I’m screaming, ‘Lager, Lager, Lager…’ the next is the quiet Bossa Nova sounds of Celso Fonseca there’s been no middle ground.

- And I’m glad it’s still winter because that I’ve got soup in the fridge.
